Your child's first big decision. We take it seriously.

Montessori is an observation-based approach in which the child is the centre of learning. The classroom is a prepared environment: carefully chosen materials, sized to the child, arranged so that independence is always the easiest path. A two-year-old pours her own water; a four-year-old tells time on a clock face she helped decorate; a nine-year-old balances an equation she first built with beads.

The teacher — a guide — observes, prepares and steps in only when the work requires it. At ROIS the method is fully Montessori, and fully Nigerian in heart: our environment is prepared with our culture, language and values in it.

We offer six levels: KG 1, KG 2, Nursery 1, Nursery 2, Lower Primary and Upper Primary. Admissions are rolling — you can apply at any time of the year, with formal intakes in January and September.

Four differences matter most. First, the child chooses her work and works at her own pace, rather than a class moving together at the teacher's pace. Second, mornings run as long, uninterrupted work cycles instead of short, bell-driven periods. Third, materials are designed to show their own errors, so children self-correct without waiting for a mark. Fourth, the teacher assesses by observation and records what each child can really do — rather than relying on exams alone.

We still deliver the full academic curriculum: English, mathematics, science, computing, social studies — the method changes how it is taught, not what is taught.

Children arrive at 7:45am and choose their work. Morning circle comes at 8:15, then a long uninterrupted Montessori work cycle. There is snack and free play, outdoor learning in the garden, lunch and a rest period, and afternoon enrichment — music and movement, coding in the lab, literacy and character work. We close at 3:30pm.

We observe, record and report. Guides keep running notes of each child's work — what she is ready for, what she has mastered, where the next step is. You receive written reports each term, and a scheduled parent–guide consultation where we walk through the records together. Most importantly, we never test a child at the gate: admission is based on a friendly conversation and an observation session, not an exam.

In our early years levels (KG and Nursery), no — practice at home happens through everyday life: tidying, cooking help, reading together, naming things on the walk home. In Lower Primary, children receive light, meaningful practice (short reading and number exercises, a few times a week). In Upper Primary, homework is regular: reading logs, short compositions and revision — because by then they are preparing for secondary school, and they are ready for it.

As involved as you want to be, within a simple rhythm: a daily note from the guide at pick-up, written termly reports, a scheduled parent–guide consultation every term, and open doors for open days and events. We ask that you trust the work cycle during the day — and we will show you exactly why it works the first time you visit.

A completed application form, a copy of the child's birth certificate, the most recent report from the previous school (if transferring), two passport photographs, and a parent/guardian ID. An immunisation record is appreciated if available. We also hold a friendly conversation with the child — we observe, we never test at the gate. See the full documents list on this page.

Use the Book a Tour page: pick a date and time slot, tell us who is coming, and submit. We confirm every tour within one school day, by phone and email. Tours run Monday to Saturday — and we strongly recommend bringing your child, because the best view of our school is from their height.

The full, itemised fee schedule is shared with you in person during your tour — we believe fees are a conversation, not a webpage. It covers tuition and everything included (meals, Montessori materials, coding lab access, books and the uniform starter kit), and we offer payment plans. There are no hidden charges, and the admissions lead walks the schedule through with you line by line. A one-time admission process fee applies at application.
